Watch this show-and-tell video featuring the Oculus Rift HMD with Vizard VR software and wireless PPT wide-area tracking. We created a virtual obstacle course to demonstrate the possibilities of wireless Virtual Reality. This level of running, spinning, shuffling and jumping would be impossible with a traditional, cabled HMD.
With the Oculus Rift, a light, comfortable, wireless HMD for around $300, we can now change the game for VR in industrial training applications, psychological research, and consumer social interaction applications.
Shown here is the WorldViz PPT optical-inertial motion tracking system covering a 45 ft x 25 ft floor. The Vizard VR toolkit and a few hours of scripting made this fun demo that shows the potential of wide-area tether-less VR.
